The PowerFax M-Series intelligent multi-line fax board offers the ultimate in
affordability and density for fax-server applications. Check out the PowerFax M-4
and M-8 for analog-trunk applications and the PowerFax M-T1 for high-capacity digital
applications.
The PowerFax
M-Series offers the system integrator the highest-density lowest-priced ISA fax board
available, including single-slot E1 and T1 boards. The M-4 and M-8 offer 4 and 8
ports of loop-start, ground-start, and DID trunk interfaces for North America and
Japan. The M-T1 and M-E1 provide single-slot solutions for very high-density fax
systems.
An intelligent fax board usually costs the system developer two-to-three times as much per
port as does a voice-processing port. Reasonably robust single-line computer-based
fax can be based on Class 1-fax modems. But these low-cost boards have a line
interface and a modem chip that interfaces with the host-based fax-protocol engine across
the ISA or PCI bus. These are not scalable since the real-time requirements of T.30,
the ITU standard that defines the fax protocol, cannot be met across the PC bus for an
arbitrarily large number of fax ports. When a multi-line computer-based fax board
came along, manufacturers incurred the cost of both the fax modem and an embedded
microprocessor for each port to host the T.30 protocol engine, exceeding the cost of a
typical voice port by three times.
Commetrex' M-Series fax board takes advantage of today's technology to reduce the
per-port hardware resources required for a fax port to only twice the DSP MIPS requred by
a classic voice port, small enough that on some hardware architectures it is negligible.

Winner of Computer Telephony Magazines Editors Choice Awards, the PowerFax M-4 is a 4-port
analog fax board that employs DSP technology at half the cost of a medium-density PC-based
fax board. The M-4 is comprised of a hardware/software bundle of multifax DSP-based fax
modems, the multifax API, the AG-4/80, and a 4-line Alliance Generation DSP-resource board
by Natural MicroSystems.
Priced thirty percent less than competitive products, it is available for the Windows
NT operating system and is easily installed via an automated installation procedure.

The PowerFax M-8 is
an 8-line analog fax board comprised of the same hardware/software bundle as the M-4 only
with the AG-8/80 and an 8-line Alliance Generation DSP-resource board. The M-8 is
designed to simplify application development. It includes fax send and receive,
file-format conversion, document-queue management, and fax-status functions. It
offers the fax-system end-user or developer the lowest-cost, highest-density, PC-based
multiline fax platform available.

The PowerFax M-T1 is
similar to the M-4 and M-8 in hardware/software bundling only it offers a 24-line fax
board with an integrated T1 digital trunk interface. It uses one slot reducing system size
and cost, and is very economical.

The PowerFax M-E1 is
a 30-line fax board with an integrated E1 digital trunk interface with PTT approvals in
over 37 countries. Like its sister products, it offers the latest in DSP technology
at half the cost of other high-density fax boards, and is designed to simplify application
development. The M-E1 software is available for Windows NT operating system and is
easy to install.
