Roswell, GA, December 20, 2005 - NetGen Communications, Inc., a spin out
of Commetrex Corporation owned by Commetrex' shareholders, has been awarded US
patent 6,931,111, Methods and Systems for Providing Communications Services (the
1111 patent), on August 16. The patent's
20 claims cover the provision of communications functions, such as PBX,
messaging, and video and audio conferencing, as an on-demand service
provided through a combination of Internet-based servers and a
premises-based service node. NetGen said it is seeking service-provider
partners interested in solving the problem of meeting the
integrated-communications needs of the SMB.
Mike Coffee, CEO of both NetGen and Commetrex, commented: "We believe
the full utilization of the 1111 patent will finally solve the problem
of how the world's small-to-medium-sized businesses (SMBs) will be able
to affordably compete in the communications-intensive twenty-first
century. Meeting the demand for such services would create one of the
great companies to begin in this century. But utilizing the 1111 patent is
not our business, which is to provide critical value-adding
technology to the telecom-equipment developer, so we founded NetGen to
hold and exploit the patent, which was filed in 1999."
The 1111 patent discloses systems and methods that allow a user to
access communications services using a service node or a computer
connected via the Internet to a communications-applications support
system at a service provider's facility. The user is provided with
information as to the communications services available. These
services may be ordered for implementation on and used with the service node
or the user's computer. Upgrades, maintenance, and new services
may be transferred from the applications-support system to the user's
computer, as appropriate. The system relieves the user from
provisioning, configuring, maintaining, updating, or educating
individuals about the communications services.
