Norcross, GA, March 3, 2000 - Commetrex Corporation announced today it has added
PowerRelay real-time fax over IP and ATM technology to its fax-technology portfolio.
A spokesperson for the company said that the software product, which is scheduled to ship
to four technology licensees in first quarter 2000, will be available as part of its MSP
Media Gateway product line by mid-year.
Cliff Schornak, Commetrex' CTO, points out that the product line-up supports two
important standards that define packet-based fax protocols: T.38 fax for IP and I.366.2 for
ATM. "We partitioned the protocol into a separate module to make it easy to support
different relay protocols," explained Schornak.
T.38 fax defines the protocol used with UDP and TCP for real-time fax over IP networks.
I.366.2, otherwise known as ATM Adaptation Layer 2 (AAL2), defines the protocol for
real-time fax over ATM networks.
"We've developed three different implementations for four licensees by simply
substituting one protocol module for another. Two of those clients use T.38 fax, one uses
I.366.2, and one required a custom protocol for a secure private network," adds
Schornak.
Commetrex is porting the technology to its very high-performance MSP Media Gateway line
of DSP-resource boards based on the TI TMS320C6201 DSP. The Company said it would be in
beta testing by mid-year.
Mike Coffee, Commetrex' president, boasted this latest addition to Commetrex'
fax-technology portfolio will give Commetrex the most comprehensive line-up of technology
for licensing in the industry. "If someone has a more comprehensive selection of fax
technology being offered for licensing, I'd like to know who they are," Coffee
challenged. Commetrex licenses its fax modems, T.30 protocol engine, conversion library,
and now, fax-over-packet technology. Commetrex is a member of Texas Instruments(TI)
Third-Party Network, and offers its technology on the TMS320C6000 series as well as other
TI DSPs in addition to hardware-neutral C-language implementations.
Commetrex Corporation, known for its innovations in fax technology, has recently developed
the open-communications industry's first platform for system development that supports the
industry's two primary standards for open-system environments: the MSP Consortium M.100
software environment for media integration and the ECTF S.100 software environment for
application integration. Both products are available with the company's MSP Media Gateway
product line featuring the Texas Instruments TMS320C6000 family of DSPs. The MSP Media
Gateway products support voice, fax, high-speed data, VoIP and FoIP. Commetrex also
extends its support of the communications system developer to the media-processing
algorithm level, and is an active participant in Texas Instruments Third Party
Developer Network.
