Norcross, GA March 2, 1999 - Commetrex Corporation announced today
that its MSP/CX Media Gateway, the computer telephony industrys only standards-based
DSP-resource board, has recently received two major industry awards: Product of the Show
by CTI Expo Fall 98 in San Jose, CA in December, and 1998 Product of the Year in the
January issue of CTI magazine.
"We at CTI Magazine have followed with some interest Commetrex entry
into the platform segment of the value-adding CTI industry", said Rich
Tehrani, the magazines publisher. "There have been few players to enter the
market at that level in the last several years, so we were interested in what made
Commetrex believe their doing so would make a difference. The reason they gave is to
introduce open-architectures at the board level to enable the cost-effective development
of integrated-media resource boards. CTI Magazine has tracked the work of the
Commetrex-led MSP Consortium, and now they have a product to back up the Consortiums
M.100 standard, which was released last year."
Martin Lippman, Commetrexs marketing VP, said, "As the new guys on the block
we have to be tougher. So the MSP/CX Media Gateway offers the computer telephony developer
unprecedented choices: It can be used with media-processing firmware to provide up to 120
ports of voice, fax, data, VoIP, and FoIP on one board. It can be purchased with the MSP
Consortium M.100 software environment to provide a standards-based media-processing
facility for the developers media-processing firmware. And it can be purchased with
the Board-Level Developers Kit when the requirement is for an advanced-architecture
DSP-resource board."
"We knew the MSP/CX had to be more than the first standards-based platform. It had
to offer the ultimate in media-processing power to accommodate the media diversity
required by twenty-first century communications servers," continued Lippman. "So
we chose the next-generation Texas Instruments TMS320C6201 as the boards DSP, and
equipped each with over 16-Mbytes of SDRAM. Two of these advanced chips give the MSP/CX
3,200 MIPS of stream processing on an H.100 PCI board. The board also includes an
Intel-architecture co-processor with 4-Mbytes of RAM, 8 Mbytes of shared-access RAM,
OEM-accessible security button, Ethernet interface, and PCI P-n-P interface.
Mike Coffee, President of Commetrex, said "Commetrex is extremely pleased to have
received these honors for the MSP/CX Media Gateway. We believe the awards are in
recognition of the unique options the MSP/CX offers the communications OEM. The MSP/CX
Media Gateway is the only CT platform that is standards-based. Being M.100-compliant, it
provides a vendor-independent strategic path unequaled in the industry. Commetrex believes
the OEM choosing to purchase, rather than develop, a DSP board for communications
applications should not have to be locked in captive-technology jail."
Commetrex Corporation is a rapidly growing company of communications and information
processing professionals that combine the skills of DSP engineering and computer-system
design to provide innovative high-value communications products.
