Norcross, GA, March 2, 1999 - D2 Technologies and Commetrex Corporation
announced today at Computer Telephony Expo Spring 99 in Los Angeles that the
two companies have formed a partnership to port Commetrexs MultiFax Group 3
fax modem software to the Texas Instruments TMS320C54x series of DSPs. D2 will license the
resulting software to its customers. First shipments of D2s fax products are
expected in April of 1999. Later in the year the companies will also jointly develop a fax
over packet solution.
"The TI C54x family of DSPs is very popular in the telephony market and
were extremely pleased to be working with D2 Technologies to expand the availability
of MultiFax to this DSP. D2s extensive telephony and DSP experience make them an
excellent partner for Commetrex. D2s offering our MultiFax technology on the
C54x family will complement Commetrexs C31, C51 and the
soon-to-be-released C6x version that Commetrex will support on its MSP/CX Media
Gateway and offer to OEMs." said Martin Lippman, Vice President of Marketing at
Commetrex.
"We chose Commetrexs world-class MultiFax technology because it is
market-proven: It is currently running on 7 different platforms and has 6 years of field
experience. Our alliance with Commetrex will enable D2 to expand its already comprehensive
library of voice and telephony algorithm products and VP Open Framework to include
Group 3 fax modem support. D2s new off-the-shelf software components will include:
V.21, V.29, V.27ter and V.17 data pumps." said David Wong, President of D2
Technologies. "We will be jointly expanding our fax technology to address the
exploding FoIP market."
D2s fax software will be fully compliant with D2s VP Open Framework
architecure, which provides all the necessary system support on the DSP for a variety of
voice processing applications. VP Open allows DSP developers to easily integrate the fax
software modules with D2's other industry-leading algorithms such as DTMF and Universal
Tone Detection, Echo Canceller, and voice coders. D2 also plans to integrate the fax
modules into a number of upcoming integrated software products for LAN fax, unified
messaging, and voice/fax over IP systems.
Commetrex MultiFax adds software-defined
Group 3 fax capability to DSPs. MultiFax was first introduced as a fax software addition
to the Natural MicroSystems (NMS) (Framingham, MA.) VBX boards in 1993 and was ported to
their AG boards in 1995. NMS has licensed MultiFax and offers their product under the
tradename NaturalFax. MultiFax has also been ported to BICOMs (Monroe, CT) LS-E
family of voice boards under the tradename BICOMFax. Computer Communications Specialists,
Inc. (CCS) in Norcross, GA and Commetrex Corporation jointly incorporated MultiFax into
CCS's FirstLine product. MultiFax is the technology core of Commetrex PowerFax
M-Series of high-density intelligent fax boards and Commetrex is basing the fax component
of its TMS320C60-based MSP/CX Media Gateway on the technology.
Commetrex Corporation develops and markets business-enabling technology products for the
communications system developer.
