Atlanta, GA, April 17, 2001 – Commetrex Corporation announced today that its successful union of two ITU fax-protocol engines, T.30 terminating-fax protocol and T.38 real-time IP fax relay, has received Computer Telephony Magazine's CT EXPO 2001 Best of Show award following the annual event of the same name held last month in Los Angeles. T.38 fax specifies the IP-based protocol normally used in IP gateways to achieve robust fax transmissions between PSTN-based fax terminals connected to the public network. T.30, on the other hand, is the end-to-end protocol that governs all real-time public-network fax transactions. T.30 is also used by fax servers to implement the terminating-fax function. By combining the two protocol engines, Commetrex has enabled equipment developers to implement the classic gateway function and the terminating-fax function required by servers, all on the same network platform. The technology is available in embedded and host-based implementations.

Commetrex competed against 350 new and upgraded products. Judges chose Commetrex' marriage of T.30 and T.38 fax as one of 70 winners, based on its contribution to the communications industry.

"When selecting a Best of Show product, we look for companies that have made major improvements to existing products or have devised new ones that excite the industry," said Richard Grigonis, Chief Technical Editor, Computer Telephony Magazine. "We are quite pleased to see Commetrex win in that Commetrex has filled a large vacuum of fax termination problems that ISP's usually have with an existing solution. Commetrex continues to devise innovative products as part of its long history of interesting product development. And now with the age of the Internet, Commetrex continues to ride the wave."

Commetrex' successful union of T.30 and T.38 fax means that the equipment developer can now easily implement terminating-fax service platforms for IP networks. As Bayne Bunce, VP Product Development explains: "Developers are looking for a way to merge gateway and service-platform functionality, creating a need for terminating faxes to and from an IP network. Our T.30-T.38 solution has the functionality to handle this need, and it can run on the embedded resource or directly on the gateway-service platform’s host. In fact, the host processor in many ways, is better suited to host the processing requirements of these two protocols.”

CT Expo covers a spectrum of communications platform products, components and services showcasing new communications technologies to a wide range of industry professionals such as manufacturers, developers, consultants, service providers, channel entities, and managers. Simon Cooper, Executive Director of Events for CMP adds: "CT Expo significantly broadened its reach in 2001. With converging technologies as this year's show theme, the display of products went far beyond the traditional CTI/Call Center portfolio. And to receive a Best of Show Award in this competitive marketplace is a great achievement."

Commetrex reports that the demand for this product has skyrocketed in that last six months and that it may be the only vendor at the present time offering this functionality as licensed intellectual property.

Commetrex Corporation
Commetrex Corporation, known for its innovations in fax technology, has recently developed the open-communications industry's first platform for system development that supports the industry's two primary standards for open-system environments: the MSP Consortium M.100 software environment for media integration and the ECTF S.100 software environment for application integration. Both products are available with the company's MSP Media Gateway product line featuring the Texas Instruments TMS320C6000 family of DSPs. The MSP Media Gateway products support voice, fax, high-speed data, VoIP and FoIP. Commetrex also extends its support of the communications system developer to the media-processing algorithm level, and is an active participant in Texas Instrument's Third Party Developer Network.
