T.38 Interop Testing Progress Report
You might recall from our last newsletter that Commetrex offers T.38 interoperability testing to any and all equipment developers with fielded gateways interested in achieving industry-wide interoperability of T.38.   And it's absolutely free.
The following companies have completed testing, are currently working with Commetrex to achieve interoperability, or have recently signed up: J2 Global Communications(Cisco 3600); Nuera Communications; Nexge Technologies; xFax (Lucent MaxTNT; Datavision, Inc. (Lucent MAX TNT); Cirilium, Inc., Sonus Networks, Cisco, and Globespan.
Datavision's COO, Addison Zugg explains: "Datavision thanks the Commetrex team for the diligent efforts in finally achieving successful T.38 Termination of a fax sent from the Max TNT gateway.  I believe that the Datavision and Commetrex team earned high honors in working together to solve the T.38, Gatekeeper and Max TNT issues that were presenting difficulty."
The link to the T.38Lab Forum containing detailed testing results and other details can be found at http://www.commetrex.com

Interested? Call Mike Wells, the Lab's lead engineer, at 770-449-7775 x380 or e-mail him at mwells@commetrex.com. There is no cost involved.

An Inside Look at the TIA and ITU MoIP Standards Work
What are the TIA and the ITU?  The TIA is the Telecommunication Industry Association http://www.TIAonline.org and one of the input committees for the US's position for the standards created by the ITU (International Telecommunications Union).  The TIA also creates US standards for the telecommunications industry.
Commetrex' Director, Signal Processing Technologies, Bruce Adams has participated in the TR-30 subcommittees of the TIA that focus on modem and related standards.  Bruce recently attended TIA-TR30 meetings held in Newport Beach, CA in January and in Charleston, SC in February.  Bruce reports: "The TIA is hard at work in cooperation with the ITU-T Q11/16 Rapporteurs' group developing the Modem Relay Recommendation known as V.MoIP."  Bruce believes V.MoIP will be finalized and approved in Q302.  Commetrex intends to be an early implementer of V.MoIP.
Just as IP-based access networks need T.38 to reliably transport faxes between the subscriber and the circuit-switched network, MoIP is needed to do the same for dial-up access, which will be with us for a long time.  Commetrex intends to provide leadership in MoIP just as it has done in FoIP.

A Visit to the Embedded Systems Conference
Promoted as the premier forum for embedded development, last month's Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) held in San Francisco was well-attended by the industry and Commetrex staff.  The show addressed all areas of embedded systems development including Internet connectivity, security, design, chip development, and protocols.
"We attended primarily to talk with the best players in the industry about partnering opportunities", said Lane Gray, Manager, Channel and Partner Sales, for Commetrex.  "Many exhibitors were either developers of embedded platforms or developers of items to put on a platform.  And we offer products that would be perfect on any embedded system developer's platform, like our OpenMedia(tm) for example." http://www.commetrex.com/products

Lining the aisles were showcases filled with new products including the latest in robotic technology and everyday household appliances.
"Getting the most system on a chip was the buzz at this year's show," reports Paul Baron, Commetrex' Director, Worldwide Sales.  "I also noticed that the attendees and exhibitors I spoke with on the exhibit floor all had road maps and schedules for product releases in Q402.  There seems to be life again in the industry which is good to see."

  Captive-Technology Jailbreak!
Ever feel as if your enabling-technology vendor has thrown you in "captive-technology jail?"  TI's Telogy division licenses VoIP and FoIP technologies to developers of 'C5400-based gateways.  Good technology neatly packaged in an executable module that takes over the DSP.  So how does the developer add the ability to terminate a fax to the gateway?  After all, you only get access to the IP packets...can't interface directly with the modems.  But wait! Commetrex' TerminatingT38(tm) will take those packets and send them to our T.30 protocol engine, allowing the gateway to become a media server.
We've created a special "Telogy Bailout" license and priced it to be only slightly higher than our PortableT30(tm), rather than the full-function TerminatingT38 used in IP-centric media servers.  So if you're stuck with Telogy fax modems and can only access the data via IP packets, Commetrex has a solution to the problem of how to add terminating functionality.

OTF® Kernel Draws Attendees' Interest at CT EXPO 2002 Show
Vendors seeking a value-adding platform without having to cede control of their strategic platform took notice of Commetrex' standards-based, modular products last month at CT EXPO in Los Angeles, CA.
OEM's have for years, ceded control of their strategic product platforms to their vendor when using closed integrated enabling technologies, causing the system developer to modify product strategy to fit a vendor' road map.   Commetrex doesn't do it this way. Instead, we offer products like our Open Telecommunications Framework (OTF) Kernel?, the industry's only telephony middleware software product that conforms to the ECTF' S.100 recommendation, and is not tied to the server vendor's hardware.  It's a pure software product designed to support your media-technology and connectivity resources. http://www.commetrex.com/products/
