Commetrex to Have Major Presence at the Voice on the Net Show
We're going all out at the Spring Voice on the Net (VON) Show in San Jose, March 31-April 3. Just as are all industry conferences, the VON events have fewer attendees and exhibitors, but VON has held its quality. And with Jeff Pulver back in charge, we'll see that old spirit return. So we figured that if we could increase our presence we could get even more mileage out of our participation.
Commetrex will have a 20'x 20' booth at the main entrance, so you can't miss us. Please stop in to see BladeWare(tm) and blade servers provided by Cluster Labs, Dell, and Diversified Technologies. Come learn about TerminatingT38(tm), PowerRelay(tm) for T.38, OpenEndpoint(tm), our T.38 Interop Lab, and the MSP-H8 host-signal-processing PCM interface.
For more on VON, visit http://www.commetrex.com/

Emerging Architectures in Media Servers:A Commetrex-hosted Panel at VON
Commetrex is hosting "Emerging Architectures in Media Serves", a five- company panel discussion that will focus on the latest in media-server architectures. If it's half as good as the panel we hosted at Fall VON 2002, "Media-Aware Features in IP Gateways", it will be highly informative and very lively. Come learn more about Commetrex' BladeWare(tm), host- signal-processing framework. And check out this panel:
Dave Rodgers, SVP, Engineering, IP Unity - Dave's 30-year career includes assignments at BrightLink Networks and Compaq. He has a BSEE in computer science from Carnegie-Mellon.
Eric Burger, CTO, SnowShore Networks - Prior to SnowShore, Eric was the Chief Scientist of ADC/Centigram; the VP of Engineering for The Telephone Connection,Inc.; and held engineering-management positions at Cable & Wireless and MCI.
Garland Sharratt, VP, Business Development and Chief Architect,Convedia - Garland has over 15 years of experience in telecommunications. He held positions in product management and engineering at Northern Telecom and Bell Northern Research. Garland received his BEE from the University of Toronto and his MBA from the University of Ottawa.
Mike Keefe, VP Engineering for Cognitronics - Michael has designed and developed telecommunication systems for over 20 years. He currently manages the design and development of media servers at Cognitronics.
The panel will be hosted by Mike Coffee, founder and CEO of Commetrex. Don't leave early since the time for this session is Thurs., Apr.3, 2:00 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.
If you wish to attend this show, on-line registration is available at http://www.pulver/com/von.

Telephony Blocking & Tackling: It's All About the Basics
The list of stream-processing technologies required just to place a call and record a message in a digital-media telephony system is daunting: DTMF generation (and detection), in-band call-progress analysis, and voice coders and decoders (vocoders). With experienced DSP engineers doing the work this list represents three developer-years and one calendar year of work to develop and validate these algorithms. It's no wonder that most equipment developers choose to license these technologies, just as Glenayre Technologies, Inc., of Duluth, Georgia did.
Glenayre's 200 service-provider customers have 51-million messaging subscribers, so when Glenayre launched a project to update its market- leading MVP unified messaging system, they had to make sure the new system was rock solid from its product launch. The TI TMSC6200 DSP was chosen to achieve the highest possible system densities. With that selection, TI made a recommendation to Glenayre: "Contact Commetrex for the required 'C6000-based DSP technologies.".
"We've been very pleased with Commetrex' technologies and continuing support. TI was right when they said Commetrex was an expert in the C6000," said Don Mills, VP Engineering, at Glenayre. "Commetrex not only had the algorithms we needed, but when we ran into problems, even if it had nothing to do with their technology, they had an expert there to help us out of every jam."

  Mediatrix Completes T.38 Interop Testing
Mediatrix Telecom Inc. develops and markets advanced VoIP access devices and gateways for the enterprise, SOHO, and residential markets. All of its access and gateway products are T.38 enabled. "It made perfect sense to validate our product's T.38 capabilities with an independent lab so we turned to Commetrex," said Alex Suter, VP PLM and R&D, Mediatrix.
"Mediatrix brings to 10 the number of companies that have submitted products for testing in the Lab," says Mike Wells, the Lab's lead engineer. "Every time we test we learn something valuable; so do our testing partners."To view T.38 lab results, visit http://www.commetrex.com/t38lab about.html.
For information on how your company can test its' T.38 product, contact Mike Coffee at 770.449.7775 x310 or sales@commetrex.com.

CompactPCI Systems Magazine January/February Focus: Media Servers
BladeWare(tm) is the cover article of this month's issue of "CompactPCI Systems" magazine. Please check it out at http://www.compactpci-systems.com/.
BladeWare, announced at Fall VON 2002, is the industry's first host-only media server. The product, which terminates hundreds of calls per processor,is designed specifically to take advantage of the economies available with the emerging blade-server technology.
