Commetrex' MSP-H8 8-Line Analog PCM Interface sets the standard for affordability for digital-media enterprise servers since it uses
host MIPS for media processing. Its attractive $125 per voice-fax port price in high volume is gleaning attention from the industry. After
15 years on the market, the incumbent's fax board still costs $400-800 per port, high enough to put LAN- based fax servers out of
reach for the small-to-medium-sized business.
It shouldn't be that way and Commetrex is doing something about it.
This board is the open-communications industry's first to support seamless host-based signal processing for 1-8-line communications systems. It's an 8-line,
analog PCI board which leverages OpenMedia's hardware independence to lower the cost of media resources in low-port-count systems by putting unused
host-PC MIPS to work.
Commetrex' CTO Cliff Schornak and the principal author of the MSP Consortium's M.100 recommendation explains: "M.100 and OpenMedia provide hardware
independence and support multiple execution environments. When developing OpenMedia for our MSP-320 Media Gateway, with 3,200 MIPS of DSP processing,
we began with the host-based execution environment because of its ease of development. Then the DSP guys began using it to debug their code on the host. It
was then that we realized the cost reductions possible for small systems by providing a board with only the trunk interfaces that would move PCM streams to and
from the host PC. Moreover, with pluggable interfaces and per-port licensing, the MSP-H8 gives even greater cost reductions for systems requiring less than 8
lines."
- MSP-H8 Embedded SDK - If you are going to use Commetrex' H8 as a hardware-only resource, then you will need the MSP-H8 Board-Level SDK.
- OTF® Kernel - Although the MSP-H8 is available as a hardware-only component, the necessary system-level software you may need is also available from Commetrex.
The OTF Kernel provides an integrated-telephony client-server software system.
- OpenMedia - If you have already developed your own high-capacity integrated media streams
framework and you are going to use it on the H8 board, you won't need OpenMedia. But if you do, click here.
- OpenEndpoint - A version of OpenEndpoint is available that uses the MSP-H8 as the PSTN-interface hardware.
To read about it, click here.
- Trunk Interface Software - The same trunk-interface protocol that Commetrex uses on the H8 is available as a stand-alone software product.
